Phenylpiracetam

Phenylpiracetam is a nootropic (neuro protective) substance, analog of piracetam. Addition of phenyl group improves bioavailability and allows molecules to better penetrate  a blood–brain barrier.

Studies of Phenylpiracetam on animals showed that rats given 10 mg/kg Phenylpiracetam performed an average of 375% more work than the control group.  Phenylpiracetam increases motivation, i.e., the workload, which animals are willing to perform to obtain revard.

Experiments also performed on rats in a European patent for using Phenylpiracetam to treat sleep disorders showed an increase in extracellular dopamine levels after administration.

Phenylpiracetam increases the resistance of brain tissue to hypoxia and toxic substances, improves concentration and mental activity,  supports regional blood flow in ischemic regions of the brain. Phenylpiracetam may also act as a noradrenaline reuptake inhibitor

Phenylpiracetam was developed in 1983 in Russia as a medication to treat the prolonged stresses, depressive and anxiety disorders.

Phenylpiracetam is included in the WADA list of prohibited substances and activities as it was widely used by athletes to boost performance,  increase physical stamina and especially to improve tolerance to cold weather during winter sports activities.

Currently in Russia and some other countries Phenylpiracetam  is available as prescription medication while in the USA it is not FDA approved but available as a supplement.

Recommended dosage: 100 – 200 mg/ day.
